For me, contemplating science versus spirituality is a moot point. Dad was a science teacher. He schooled me at an early age in the ways of physics with playfulness and bravado. Mom schooled me, concurrently, in spiritual concepts.
My viewpoints on inner-outer ways of being were formed experientially from the get-go.
At this third quarter in my present journey on Earth, and from a vantage point of personal research, I see the fate of humanity may well depend upon each and every individual asking: Why am I here? What is my purpose? Or most importantly, How can I help?
Maya Angelou wisely said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” Albert Einstein reportedly claimed it was easier to change the particles of matter than the attitudes of men.
Changing an attitude seems better accomplished when one’s head is acquainted with a spiritual realm. That’s where religion has historically shown up.
Religions, for the most part, agree on the tenet of the Golden Rule. Let’s call religion’s purpose: Polishing Diamonds. This is not a “new age” approach. Ancient sacred texts expounded on an Inner Life Assistant for worldly living.
I ask: Where’s the authenticity in allowing someone else to figure out your best solution? Religion, at its best, assists you in finding your own path. Religion at its worst offers only generic instructions.
People who doubt science may be curiosity-challenged. People who doubt spirituality may be self-worth challenged.
